Since you were defending the draft dodging Romney, by claiming that Reagan never served, and then when you were called out on that, switching to denigrating his service, and implying that he was a "Hollywood elite" that dodged combat, as you denigrated military service and veterans if they didn't see combat, well asking if you had ever served, seemed very appropriate.
