This is EXACTLY the point I think I am trying to lead the reader to. My rather bleak missive is written in the vein of "A Modest Proposal" -- an outrageous, edgy piece intended to make people think a little.
First was in Atlanta, 1988, when Operation Rescue descended en mass in conjunction with the Democrat convention. Thousands arrested for peacefully blocking access to the baby murder camps. With a few rare exceptions, leadership of faith communities, even who I thought to be good men, headed for the tall grass. Feds came at us with actual and threatened RICO. End of story.
Second was in the aftermath of 9/11 when we all recall the massive wave of solidarity that inundated the nation. But, it quickly degenerated into anger and a desire for vengeance. The missing piece was and still is repentance.
Odd as it seems today, Presidents have indeed called the nation to repentance, and that in very specific terms, not the namby pamby language prevalent today.
It's gonna take another massive hit for us as a nation to even get into a place to repent.
