Trajan, wasn’t it? And autocorrect wants my other Emperor suspect to be ‘Popeye’.

Well, he was strong to the finish...

Trajan was definitely near the top of great Roman generals to wear the purple, brought the empire to its pinnacle, and the pile of plunder he accumulated enabled the empire to totter along for a couple more centuries. Unfortunately he was followed by Hadrian, who wanted to tour the provinces — the ones he hadn’t handed back — and knock off young boys.
