Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats
Real Clear Science ^

Posted on 06/19/2015 8:10:41 AM PDT by Altariel

Here are five (mostly) scientific reasons why dogs trump cats.

1. Exercise motivation

While dogs demand physical and recreational activity, all cats demand is food and a comfy sofa to sleep on all day. Great job being a role model, Felix!

****

2. Give the elderly a purpose

Pets are wonderful stress relievers for people of all ages, but the elderly in particular benefit from owning a dog.

****

3. Sniff Out Cancer

Cats have an attuned sense of smell, but they're difficult to train. The top cats also can't match the top dogs nose for nose.

****

4. Smarter

Cats have more neurons in their brains than dogs, but by most accounts, dogs put theirs to better use, performing tasks like leading the blind or locating survivors of a disaster.

****

5. Stronger Bond with Humans

Cats can be just as affectionate as dogs, but there's little question that the bond between a dog and its owner is stronger.

The dog is going,

“There, there now...I will hug him and squeeze him and call him George.”

My current kitty is the son of a huge orange tom who impregnated many generations of local female kitties.

The neighbors old black tom cat was not one of those taken to the pound by his relatives after he died. When the neighbor stopped putting food out for him I think he just wandered off and found someone new.

Cats clean themselves. I rest my case.
Dogs clean the floor whenever I accidentally drop food.

You are absolutely correct....my cats and I have bonded as much if not more than any dog that I could have ever had.

Cats are ideal for me....I’m a confirmed cat person. I’d be devastated and lost if something happened to my two boys.

How would your cat do when an intruder breaks into your house? Just sayin’

We have 2 cats, they’re both nice enough. We also have a German Shepard/Belgian Malinois mix. That dog would lay down its life to protect my house and three small children.

My 2 cats would hardly look up and go back to licking themselves while the intruder does his worst...

I will concede that most cats do well at killing vermin. Both mine have chalked up a few mice each...

Maybe once in a life time, you bring home a little scrap of a cat from a shelter. Give her some food, a cozy place to nap and then for 14 years, you get the best little buddy ever. photo DSC9805xSw_zpsvzzirmcj.jpg

R.I.P. we still miss you.

How will your cats do with warning you/stopping an intruder breaking into your house? A little extra care and maintenance is worth that deterrent IMHO.

Each dog, through the claw treatment, has learned not to screw with the kitty.

Over the years, when friends have decided to have "mixed" households, they have asked me how I thought the dog(s) would manage with cat(s).

I ask if the cats have claws. If they do, I say the situation will work itself out.

If an intruder broke into my house, my cat would greet him and the door and follow him around.

If an intruder broke into my sister's house, her Maltese/Chizu mix would greet him and the door, bark incessantly, jump up and down on his leg and follow him around.

My Isabelle ran off two nights ago. She has never been outside since a kitten and only a year old now. You can imagine the search with the neighborhood all involved as well...nothing.

Trick question. You will only find your dog in the trunk.

The wife will fight you tooth and nails (elbows and legs kicking too).

Unlike your dog. (whistle) “Here, boy!” the dog will happily jump in wherever you point at.

Cats are adulterous. They will throw themselves wantonly at another family and then come home as if nothing happened.
