If you catch it in time, yes. The guy in the above article had his heart torn to shreds by it.

They don’t work for everyone.
The mortality rate seems to be between three and five percent.

If you catch it early, antibiotics will get clear it up. But if you don’t realize you have it for months on end, it festers to the point that antibiotics may not help.

IF it is promptly and properly diagnosed. Let it go too long, and it gets really ugly.

I’ve had it twice, my son once, my fiancee’s son once and her father twice. These days, once you see the “bullseye” (usually within 96 hours of being bitten), they put you on a heavy treatment (and let me tell you, it cleans out your system pretty thorough.). If it is caught outside of 35 days, there are still treatment options that take longer and you won’t be taking a “solid” crap for a couple months as pretty much all the good bacteria will be wiped out as well with the more aggressive treatment. It sucks to be sure, but there is lots of hope if you stick with the treatments.
