Basically they were saying how much better the U.S. would be if they had a "manly" president like Putin as opposed to an effeminate one like Obama.
It got rather creepy too. They'd be posting pictures of Putin naked from the waist up and Photo-shopped to the body of a horse, alongside a picture of Obama doing something unbecoming of a president, like riding a bicycle or eating an ice cream. It was almost like homoerotic worship of Putin.
Like I said, it died down a year or so ago, around the time Putin started showing aggression towards the West, but for a while, it got weird around here.
Not that I don't think Obama is a joke of a president and is the most inept and unprepared president in our nation's history, but to position Putin as an alternative - not cool.

Yes, it was during this period that Putin and his minions were very popular with a group of Freepers because Russkies hate gays, so they must be good guys. Then Ukraine, war ships floating near Japan and military planes going over the heads of Great Britain. That stopped the half naked photos of Putin - always, weirdly, put up by male freepers, I think!
