About a block downtown from here is Collect Pond Park. Apparently this area used to be quite a wetlands before they were finally able to stop up the spring and develop about 100 years ago (what’s a progressive mayor to do?).

Anyway, there’s a concrete pond there now with no water in it (???) and a hawk had landed in the pond with a smaller bird in its talons.

Some kids were trying to scare the hawk away from its prey, which had probably already shuffled off this mortal coil. I hope their lesson in the power in a hawk’s beak isn’t too painful.

Hey, not every urban yute can show off scars from a hawk attack.
