My “Linux for Dummies” came today, so I hope my brain is able to absorb enough to get me weaned off Win 8.1.

I will try to read some of it tonight and take some notes.

Is it very difficult to learn? Change is hard for me, so this project of converting to a new OS may take me a while to understand.

I will warn you that TeamViewer might not work. We’ll have to switch to DameWare or something similar.

Anyway, if you stick with running your applications and using the window-based tools like a file manager you’ll be right at home. You’d have trouble trying to switch from the old DOS command line to the new Linux command line, but hopefully you weren’t dealing with keyboard-driven commands.

Side note: I worked for IDG for a while. They originally used the “for dummies” moniker while getting the books ready for publication with the expectation that marketing would come up with something better. It was believed nobody would buy a book for themselves that had “for dummies” in the title.

It’s one of the most successful book lines ever launched.

Go figure.
