It's good. Notes from the Nerd:
- Installs good. Nice and clean. Make sure your anti-virus is up to date and that your patches are up as well. If not, Installer may ask you to remove them.
- If you are on a Domain, contact your Administrator or it may not install.
- Make sure you are updating Version for Version. Win 7 32 to Win 10 32. Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro. Etc...
- If the automated/reservation install doesn't work, go out to the MS Win 10 download site and just drop it down from there. Still installs ok...
- Laptop users... There is a bug in the Power widget in the lower right taskbar by the clock. It'll show connected power, but then tell you it isn't charging. This has been observed by me on three different laptops. A new Macbook Pro, an HP Probook, and a newer Dell. It DOES in fact charge, but the indicator is wrong and your power/performance settings may need some tweaking.
- A LOT of things are different. From the Program menu to the Control Panel, to the look and feel. However, it also comes with a TON of improvements and runs like a top so far. Everything seems to pop open faster, seems a lot more crsip, and I haven't had any issues so far. Games run good, Office suite runs good, no browser issues, etc... SO FAR.
- I tested the Win 10 Dev edition on a VM, and wasn't that impressed. Running on bare metal though? Looks like MS is keeping up with their trend of every other OS being a "good" OS.
- When all else fails... BACK UP YOUR FILES. Just... do it. Trust me... There's no coming back from a botched OS install. I've done 4 so far, with good results. One took a bit of tweaking to get the update rolling, but nothing bad once that hurdle is cleared.
So... There's my run down. If you aren't happy with Win 7, or were unlucky enough to wind up with 8/8.1, make the jump. I think you'll like it...

Okers.
What about the automatic updater?
Any word on getting it to behave?
Or wait on that until you’ve observed it and then beaten it into submission?

That’s all very encouraging. Do you do any software development? Do the IDEs work OK?
But if I can’t tell it whether or not to download something I’m not jumping in. They can even put the special downloads in a special window that says, “Warning, if you don’t install these key patches Microsoft will drop you faster than the Obama Administration dropping a U.S. Ally.” But I still have to have the option.
