Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

However, there are other things I could wish for him ...

Like Darksheare dreams while he's under?

LOL! Imagine his having Karsh Kentu for his constant companion the rest of his life.

For all I know, that’s exactly what he has. She just hasn’t shown her true colors, yet.

Fourteen days now with temps over 100. It was 95 on the patio a while ago and the sun isn’t over the yardarm, yet.

“Imagine his having Karsh Kentu for his constant companion the rest of his life.”

O_o
That would be rather amusing.

As Calvin (of Calvin and Hoobess) would say, one of these days I have to learn to listen to those nagging doubts.

I can think of worse fates. But not many.

It was 97 (officially) at McCarran at 0430 this morning. It will be about 112 today. Again.

And I’ve worked myself into a sweat by sweeping and mopping the kitchen and living room. Now I just have to vacuum the rug and change the bedding and I’m good to go.

I worked right through the laundry room opening, so I will junk that idea until tomorrow.

I uncovered parts of the floor I haven’t seen since I moved in 3.5 years ago... And I hosed off the carpet protector under the desk. One of these days, I will wipe the dust off the dust collectors. ;o]

Go down to the pier and look at the whalers and you will see yardarms...

Went to the gym and then took Dog for another walk. I changed my clothes, but decided to wait for a shower until after my haircut. I texted Jamie to say she can come earlier than 1:00 if she wants to.

I have to go to Walmart in a bit to get my prescription.
I’m all worn out from the housework of the last two days. My next trick is to change the bedding.
After thinking about it, I decided that I will wash the sheets and towels at the same time I wash the whites, and while the sheets are drying, I will wash the other clothes. It won’t take any longer to do it that way, and I won’t have to go back to do just one load.
Maybe tomorrow.

Back from Walmart. I hope today goes faster than yesterday did. The nights are still the hardest to get through.

Only 110 here today.

What a relief!

Pat took Dragonbaby out to sunbathe, but she got too hot and crawled in the garden for shade, so they came back in.
