Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

I’m back. I got the correct pain meds, and several apologies from the pharmacist, so I’m good to go. Normally, I only take half the 15 mgs at a time because the full dose makes me feel a little unsettled. I suspect in the coming weeks, I will be taking the full dose just because of the monsoons. At least this year, I will have some relief!

And going when I did this morning was beautiful and the air was “cool” at 84. The sun was just turning the clouds orange over the mountains, and that alone was worth the drive down the hill.

The view of the Valley with all its lights is spectacular. And it’s always fun to see the High Roller on the Valley floor: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Roller_(Ferris_wheel)

It’s because you were shedding.

Like Anoreth’s dog.

How long with Anoreth and Dog be staying? I think you said they will leave Saturday...? Will Bill fly home from Sea-Tac? How fun! I hope they are taking the northern route...

Exactly what OldTax-lady said this morning! I'm sure they must be, since they plan to stop at Yellowstone.

Bill bought his ticket this morning using DP's credit card ... and yes, they're leaving Saturday.

I just took Dog for a walk. Now she wants another, but we have to leave for swimming lessons in a few minutes.

Most dogs don’t really need swimming lessons.

They will really enjoy Yellowstone, and the Grand Tetons. It’s good that Anoreth will have company on her cross-country trip this time.

I hope Frank passes his test for swimming. I’m sure he will be very proud.

(FYI: I love Wyoming!)

I’ve never been to Wyoming but I love swimming. Does that count?

I grew up in Orlando so I swam and went water-skiing a lot - snakes and alligators and all.

I don’t swim so much any more. I just can’t seem to sink in the East River.

I’ve never had a desire to see FL. And I LOVE swimming! I learned early and swam often, though it was mostly in local pools.

When I married, we were stationed at San Diego, and we spent a lot of time in the ocean and I liked that, too!

I don’t sink. I need weight belts to get to the bottom of a 6’ deep pool. My son, however, would sink if he quit moving. Odd, that. My mother never learned to swim, but she didn’t sink, either, so she wasn’t afraid to go “swimming.”

Not to turn the UT political, comrades, but I suspect FR will not last much longer. When SCOTUS announces that it is trying to interpret a law to do what Congress wants rather than defend the Constitution of the United States, we have no freedoms left to defend.

Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them. If at all possible, we must interpret the Act in a way that is consistent with the former, and avoids the latter.

I am, officially, depressed.

Welcome! Frank’s teacher doesn’t think he’ll be swimming across the top of the water under his own power by next Thursday. I’ve got him wait-listed for the same class in the next session.

“and then I realized my Facebook feed has too many political articles on it. My project for the morning is to delete them and just allow the ones that make me feel good. “

LOL! I did this about 2 weeks ago. No regrets either!
