Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

We’ll leave for Frank’s swimming lesson in about an hour. I’m working on a list of minor household tasks and playing a new Spanish hymn over and over on Youtube.

The cat was inside the wing. I doubt the pilot would have spotted it unless he actually looked.

If I was the passenger, though, I’d have to wonder what else he missed!

I’ve cleared a clog from the hosepipe on the Dyson. Now I can vacuum upstairs. The cat fur is deep!

News and comments on the main board sure are gloomy and gripy today. I think I’ll stay in here.

If you have a hollow wing, you should probably look.

If that had been a python instead of a cat it would have probably been a VERY different movie.

I thought that’s why we invented the UT...as the escape hatch from Reality.

I seldom stray from here because I’m always getting myself into trouble.

In a while, I will sort my clothes, but don’t know when I will wash. Hopefully, the fumigators cleaned the washing machines, too. <3

The envelope is in the mailbox and will be picked up around 1330 today to head your way.

Sounds good! I’ve already accomplished 5 out of 9 things on my list. A couple of the others require a trip up toward Charlotte that can’t be done until after the swimming lesson.

I’m doing good if I can get three things done in a day. Yesterday, of course, I did one thing, but also got something else done in the process.

As soon as Lablady comes to look over the books, I will take the rest of them to the library in the clubhouse. Then I will only have one thing left on the patio to clean up. An electronics box with papers in it from when I was working.

I hung onto them, hoping I would have a chance to sue the company, but the statute of limitations ran out.

By then, I was too ill to do much with the paperwork but just stack it up.

And to make my day brighter, the batteries died in my BP cuff. I thought I had another card of AAAs, but I don’t. I must have used the last of them in the reading light for my Kindle.

So I can’t keep track of how good I’m doing! LOL!

Dear everyone and kitties-

I came back to my apt yesterday in the afternoon. I’m so very happy.

After they removed the kidney stones, the doc put in another stent. It caused another infection, another 102 degree fever...more antibiotics, more pain, the whole nine. Four more days in hospital. Removed stent still in pain for another 24 hours then a few days at moms house because she was afraid I would get sick again and mom likes being a mom.

Now there’s a heat alert so I’m going to go out and get some water and ice and read a months worth of posts here

Or I may just look at a months worth of kittehs I have misses.
