The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line
A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.
San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.
Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.
Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.
Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.
"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.
There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.
This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.
I think the battery in the truck is on it’s last gasp. When I was leaving Walmart this morning, it took a while before it would catch, and that scares me.
If I go to DMV in the morning and can’t get it started, I will have to call AAA. There are no inclines to park on there, or I wouldn’t worry. I really don’t want to call AAA again. No more trips to Walmart unless I get a battery from there.
I’ve been expecting this for three or four months, now. I just sent a text to Libre Ou Mort to see when the battery was purchased.
Skinned knees are like scalp injuries — they bleed a lot worse than the amount of damage.
If it cranked normally but wouldn’t catch that was’t your battery. It was a solenoid or something else (I’m no car mechanic.) If it cranked slowly and slowed rapidly that was your battery. If the interior lights dimmed while it was cranking that was your battery.
I wouldn’t know about that. I’ve never been scalped.
The interior lights don’t work unless they want to. It is definitely the battery. The Tracker was given to me in February of 2013, and I don’t know how long the battery was in it before I got it.
I’ve texted the previous owner to find out, as I can’t find any paperwork in all that she gave me for a new battery. She had had it serviced the same month she gave it to me (February of 2013) so I can only think that the battery was fairly new when she transferred the title to me.
Even so, two and half years in the desert for a battery in a car that mostly sits in the sun is good. Most last a little over a year, but others, like this one last longer.
Often the battery has a sticker on it with the purchase date. Advanced Auto Parts will replace one of their batteries and honor any warrantees based on that stcker.
Thanks. I will go look in the morning. Right now, the nausea has hit, and I’m not feeling all that well.
I think, in a while, I will take a shower and then lie down.
As for being scalped, I haven’t either, but I’ve had several head wounds. They are really bleedy things.
Good plan. Doing it in the other order could be difficult.
Sorry to hear that! I guess you needed a bigger bandage.
Needed. One is in place now.
Clearly we haven’t had a skinned knee in a while.
It’s funny because the youngest was sharing a memory of skinning her knee as a child and remembering the difficulty of bandaging it more than any pain.
Yes, keeping a bandage on is always the hardest part.
Could you find one for a lower price than the Walmart?
I wrapped the tape all the way around my leg. I have enough to worry about at work without a knee bandage slipping.
I may be sorry when I get home.
FWIW: I’m a real baby about real blood. I used to watch those slasher movies without being bothered at all, but I normally can’t even look at a real wound - even one of my own - even while cleaning it.
I managed to get through cleaning and bandaging this knee without losing breakfast but that’s pretty unusual for me.
You’ll probably be itchy when you get home.
I suddenly have this picture of The Great Gonzo telling Milton Berle he’d take that car for $11.95.
They just don’t make movies like that any more.
Sweetums: Jack not name. Jack job!
Those were the days.
That would be good.
I’m usually Grumpy.
I found several batteries, but it would have to have a 2-year guarantee and they are about $110 across the board, with all of the auto parts stores.
LoM said they put the battery in just before they brought it down to me, so that’s about the right time frame for the life of a battery in the desert. Even the three year batteries don’t last longer than 2.5 years, here.
Speaking of LoM: I just got a text from her. She and James were victims of a hit and run in Tucson, and they are in dire need of prayers for medical, mechanical and spiritual help. Could you get the Prayer Warriors on this?
My back is spasming pretty badly and I need to lie down. I also need a breathing treatment. Just all at once, after noon, things started to shift, and I’m declaring myself a disaster area.
Undead Thread prayer request for LibreOuMort and James, who were recently in an auto accident in Tucson. “They are in dire need of prayers for medical, mechanical and spiritual help.”
Thank you all very much!
