Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

After Friday we should be able to marry our kitteh’s right? I mean, after all, emotion is what matters. The court even said you couldn’t use an ability to procreate as a requirement for marriage.

The kittehs would get inheritance rights, medial coverage, all sorts of goodies they’re denied now due to our speciest laws.

I say we challenge ‘em.

Tell ‘em you’re married to your tall grass and ask if they’re floraphobes. That ought to keep them busy for a while before they get back to you.

Are you planning to take your cat to the city clerk’s office and apply for a license? Then you can go to a church and demand that the minister perform the ceremony!

I’m considering suggesting to my mother that she marry both my brother and me. That would solve all her estate-planning issues in one swell foop.

Maybe you should switch political affiliations.

Maybe switch species instead?

Well, I have a dog, but the argument should hold.

There are two Episcopal churches in walking distance so I’m sure I won’t have any problem getting the ceremony performed.

Wellden. If Bill were blond, one could understand his driftiness... </joke

A taxi ride might well be the thing he needs to be a little more considerate.

If possible, I will go do my laundry today. I will go check the door to the laundry room in about 30 minutes. I hate this.

The whole process should go more smoothly with a dog than with a cat. Most cats violently object to being dragged around the city ... so if you were going to marry a cat, have it sedated first, same as for a bath.

Wishing you a successful laundry day!

We’ll be leaving for the pool soon, but I’m trying to get Kathleen to use the toilet first. If she doesn’t, I’ll cut her toenails!

I'll have to ponder this. Cats sound more like real wives than dogs do.

The humidity is up, so I’m sure as soon as I get back from the laundry room, I’ll have to have a breathing treatment.

And I need to take a pain pill too, since I will be standing a lot. And it IS officially monsoon weather, even though we have had monsoon weather for the last three weeks.

It’s overcast and ugly. *sigh*

The spaghetti was stuck in the copy/pasta buffer and fell out of its own accord.

I’ve heard of March of the Penguins, but never Hop, Skip and Jump of the Penguins.

I've been known to go to video stores and ask for the sequel - April of the Penguins...

Wise move. These days there aren't too many reasons to be proud of being a human - parades notwithstanding.
