Thanks all. I’m running anti spyware and anti virus now. I am logged in. I’m in a hotel, I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
It’s unlikely that the hotel uses popups for all web-browsing but it may be possible.
Until you said you are at a Hotel, I was leaning toward what all the others had suggested, however, you could also be getting ads injected by the hotspot provider at the hotel.
It isn’t a nice thing to do, but it can be done. Also, using open wifi, you subject yourself to other malicious activity, not just from the provider you think you are hooked too.
What protections and security software are you running, as you use wifi in a hotel?
What browser are you using, and what sort of popup ads are they?
I dealt with a new issue with Chrome over the last two weeks involving extensions & scumware. Solved it, but it's pretty new in the wild, methinks.
