The Duggars believe children need to be trained too.
They’ve used and endorsed the wacked out book “To Train Up A Child” by Michael Pearl.
Do you think that you should use “Blanket Training” on a child where you place a baby or toddler on a blanket, put a favorite toy just out of reach and when the child leaves the blanket to get it, yell, and beat the baby to teach it discipline? The book does.
Do you think that a baby grabbing at your glasses is cute? They don’t. Your supposed to yell at the baby and hit it.

No “beating” in our family but I did, with our oldest, sit with him on the curb and throw acorns into the street. He was about a year old, walking, and loved acorns. He wanted those acorns a lot. But when he went to get them, I would “bark” at him and hold him back. I did spank his older brother for riding his bike into the street when he was 3. Yes, he was riding a bike at three. We used “holding therapy” another thing which has been much maligned, on our daughter and then on our granddaughter. The much valued “time out” definitely did not work on two of our three children or on our granddaughter. In retrospect I now wish we had enforced boundaries more than we did but like the Duggars, we did the best we could with what we knew at the time. I wasn’t there and don’t know what the Duggars did but I do know the dynamics of a big family - my best friend in HS was the oldest of 12 and I grew up in communities where 3 child families were considered small - today we take one or two children and give them such a sense of entitlement that the tiniest discipline when they are adolescents is seen as abuse.
