I probably would have been one of those telling you how awful they were if I had not owned that good one.

BTW, I got a steal on it. I was walking to my car after visiting a gun show and met a guy going in. He had three guns and asked me if I wanted them. He said $90 for all three and I took them.

One was a rusty Chinese Mosin Nagant carbine. The other a rusty single barrel .20 gauge Western Auto and the third was the Winchester.

I gave the Mosin to a friend and he cleaned it up so well that I sort of wished I had kept it. The single barrel worked OK but was not ejecting empty shells. I found that some one for some reason had put a piece of cardboard under the ejector spring. I removed it and it then worked perfectly. As luck would have it my Nephew’s next door neighbor in Gainesville, FL moved and left a lot of nice things beside the street. Among them was 20 boxes of 20 gauge shells. My Nephew asked him for them then gave them to me. I now had a pretty decent single barrel .20 gauge with auto ejector.

Of course the gem of that group was the rough looking but sweet shooting and handling model 94. The action really was superb, feeding flawlessly.

Sometimes I miss the pre-internet days.

I remember buying a Chinese MAC-90 Kalashnikov. Was the receiver milled or stamped? I didn't know. Was the barrel chrome-lined or not? I didn't know. Was the stock NATO or Warsaw? I didn't know. Did it have the proper length hand guard? I didn't know.

All I know is I shot the shit out of it. And then I'd clean it with WD-40 (gasp!) and shoot it some more. Repeat over and over again for several thousand rounds without a single failure to fire.

I miss this. I really do.
