As a Navy vet I place the blame for lack of celebration on the US Navy. I joined hardly 25 years after Midway and never heard about it at boot camp.
Midway was as decisive for the US as Trafalgar was for the Brits. The Royal Navy has made sure that Great Britain never forgets Trafalgar.
Our USN? PHHHT!
