Drive northeast.
Or southwest.
Drive about 400 miles straight up the coast and enjoy the beaches without freaks and smog.
Santa Monica Pier..Griffith Park..LA zoo
Universal Studios would be fun for them if want to spend day at theme park.
Little further south of LA, Long Beach has a nice aquarium
Orange County has Disneyland & Knotts Berry Farm but doesn’t sound like you have too much time
Go See the Kardashians(just KIDDING)!!!
Beaches are free. If you have money, Disney, knotsberry farm, queen Mary. Helicopter excursion, museums are free. You will need lots of patience for traffic.
Board the first thing making smoke and don’t return.
Leave.
Hermosa Beach is a nice upscale beach just a few miles from LAX. Ventura is very nice and still has a small town vibe. Unless you really want to see LA or the Hollywood sign I would avoid LA with kids. It is very stressful getting around and a big dirty city. Where is the reunion and where will you stay? The beach towns north of LA are where I would go. Malibu, Ventura, Santa Barbara, maybe even up to Morrow Bay. There is nothing worth seeing in LA if you have never been to the beach.
The ship is actually in Long Beach, isn’t it?
Leave LA-too dangerious for your Family
Universal Studios
This love song to LA was written back in the 70s but still applies today;

Gee, one day in LA? Universal is a good bet, but it is a drive up the 101 freeway. Seeing the Hollywood sign is free if you do drive the 101 north to Universal. In-n-Out are the best burgers going. And the drive west down Sunset is beautiful and ends at the Beach. There is a parking lot right where Sunset dead ends and Gladstone’s Restaurant is right there on the beach. Valet parking. Gladstone’s has been remodeled and doesn’t have the great atmosphere from before, but the views are still spectacular.
1. Fly kites in the Santa Anna winds
2.Stand on side walk count how long it takes for a hit and run
3.Take bets on how many murders will happen on Saturday.
4.See sewer spills on beach
5.Take a walk at night count how many times you get mugged
6.
Canter’s deli on Fairfax Ave. The best pastrami sanwiches west of the Hudson river. I go there at least twice a month.
A drive down Pacific Coast Highway to and around the Palos Verdes peninsula is nice, including stops at Manhattan, Hermosa and/or Redondo Beach and the piers. Or you could go to Dockweiler Beach in El Segundo and watch the planes take-off from LAX right over the beach.
