SSN originally was a retirement account number. It is now the universal identification number for individuals. There is not even a check digit embedded in the number. Nothing. Anyone who gets that number has it all.
You give it to the IRS, banks, credit cards companies, car dealers, colleges, employers and others.
The local vet requested it on the form for new customer. I left it blank.
As it is now, the SSN is the stupidest thing man has ever invented.
Politicians love it because it enables them to tie all our information together.
It’s got to change. To begin: extend the number by 5 or 6 digits; one of them will be a check digit. Then reserve it for its original purpose. The system designers should be able to figure out the rest.
I've see the new ones- they say no such thing any place.
