I posted this question in another thread but got no response so...
Who else has been watching the Barclays Premier League for the last 5 years on "the networks of NBC Universal" (and before that, ESPN)?
Anyone else notice that when a player comes off for a sub (or after the game), they applaud their team's fans? Who besides me thinks that looks a little gay?
I'm considering stopping watching soccer for that reason (although I'll watch Newcastle try to stave off relegation tomorrow [only recently did I tire of the returned applause gesture (just a wave will do IMO)]).
ff
Same thing at the local high school. Kids playing soccer on what used to be baseball diamonds.
Having said that, I don't have any problem with players thanking fans. Either through applause, or taking a bow, or signing autographs, or whatever. 22 years as a professional musician, I've done all that. The autograph thing was kinda wierd...
“...absolutely awful, terrible sport”
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Totally agree.
Scoring is an aberration.
What sets mankind apart from the animal kingdom? The use of our hands. So let’s invent a sport where you can’t use them.
How much time is left? Who the hell knows.
Tie game? Let’s have a “shootout”. That’s like the World Series being decided by a Home Run Derby contest. The NBA championship decided by a game of HORSE. The Super Bowl decided by a relay race.
‘Glad I was a kid through the sixties, before hippydom.
I haven’t seen anything pro gay out of the Tigers but Detroit isn’t the most gay friendly city in the country.
Immediately after signing with the Tigers a few years ago Torii Hunter made a comment that he wouldn’t feel comfortable with gays in the locker room.
Fooooootball ees gay
gratitude is SO GAY
Same here, in the ‘70s. Had a family member who played for the Braves, so we went to many Braves games. Back in the Chief Noc-A-Homa days.
Soccer is like the lowest common denominator for sports.
Sort of like Budweiser here in the states.
...or NHL games being decided by a........shootout.
Do you think the disparity in the amount of scoring and consequently how long a game could go on for has anything to do with such things?
FR rules have changed. Engagement of the brain is allowed before 10 am on Saturdays now.
A littlebitch says what????
You forgot one. Cycling.
As opposed to a sport where the quarterback puts his hands on another another guy's "sack" to start a play from scrimmage, and then throws the ball to a tight end?
That's only because their overprotective, helicopter parents won't let them play football.
Real men are not kind, generous of spirit and are slow to show appreciation. A real man is small. A real man is an ignoramus. A real man is closed and afraid of the world.
This reminds me of that old communist practice when Khrushchev & his flunkies entered the hall of the Supreme Soviet & were greeted with a sustained standing ovation. As they approached the dais they were applauding, too.
It looked like Nikita & co were applauding themselves but in fact they were thanking the assemblage by applauding back.
IMO sports applause should be done only by the fans in the stands.
While they’re certainly skilled athletes..it does strike me as a sissy game. When tempers flare, they kick each other in the shins. More than once I’ve seen a hockey game where after getting hammered a guy pulls out his own tooth on the bench, casually hands it the trainer and gets back on the ice for his next shift.
The gay tail wags the dog. It’s all about them and acceptance of their sexual perversion. Deep down inside, they know what they are doing is wrong, and it disturbs them so intensely that eveything they do is intended to draw attention to their perverted lifestyle and demand public acceptance and affirmation of it. In doing that, they aren’t trying to convince us homosexuality is OK. They are trying to convince themselves. But no amount of public affirmation can resolve their inner conflict of knowing its wrong, and it makes them miserable. So we are blamed for their misery and made the objects of their wrath.
Once you put it in that perspective, everything the gay mafia does makes perfect sense.
I Agree it looks out of Place.
Worse than that, is all the hugging and Kissing after a Goal.
All that getting hurt is just to get aa foul called, to get a free Kick.
