Perhaps something isn’t right in your family and you just aren’t aware of it. The difference here is that it did get addressed where most of the time it is never addressed and victims have to suffer in silence or worse they get co-opted by the left as examples of how these types of sexual acts are okay.
As I mentioned earlier, Kevin Jennings, who Obama made school safety czar, is the founder of GLSEN and promoted children reading about children being sexually assaulted in ways worse than what happened in the Duggar home as if these acts were a positive thing. See “Queer 13: Lesbian and Gay Writers Recall Seventh Grade” and “Passages of Pride”. These books are promoted by the left and reveal that they really have no problem with the sexual assault under discussion. They are actually promoting this behavior openly. And what they really want is to destroy any positive role model for traditional Christianity and conservatism.
I don’t think he has a get out of jail free card because of his repentance. But if so, then it would be a great defense. Rob a bank, go to church and confess. Or you are in jail for something, get saved, repent and be released.
