IMO, a wistful & sad statement by someone who wants grandchildren but will never become a grandparent, and knows it.
Or, a more subtle version of: “You’ve been married over a year now. When are you going to give us grandchildren?”
Yup, but married? Some, but most are probably shacking or engaged for 12 years.
