Good thing the US is a republic then. Oh, wait. We used to be. Now it’s more socialist than anything.

We need more cameras for accountability. Cops shouldn’t have to take crap off anybody, but they shouldn’t give crap to anyone in an unwarranted situation.

I'm scratching my head a bit on this one. It seems that this “Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights” is simply a set of rules for internal police investigations. Such a set of agreed-upon rules is not unusual in a union workplace.
I don't see where this would have any impact on a civil or criminal trial of the officer. So IMHO it's a stretch to call it a “Bill of Rights”.

Which reminds me, whatever happened to that off-duty Chicago cop who beat the crap out of a tiny little barmaid because she said he was too drunk to have another drink?

Older cops are equally troubled by this shift in how police are being trained to view Americansas things, not people. Daly had a veteran police officer join him to review the video footage of 43-year-old Eric Garner crying out and struggling to breathe as cops held him in a chokehold. It really sucks when you have to rely on straw men and lies to prove your point.

If the constitution and the first ten amendments(assuming both black and women suffrage) are followed to the T, then no citizens should feel disenfranchised unless they be criminals. And no cops should feel hamstrung.
The other amendments, should be considered either redundant(see above paragraph) or dangerous departures from the founders intent.

'Course they occasionally throw a Darren Wilson or an officer who has a Bible in his patrol car to the wolves as a sacrificial lamb but, other than that, as Union employees, they are pretty much untouchable.
Ever thought about that, Al Sharpton? Jesse Jackson? Loretta Lynch? The young black men you kvetch about are being targeted and incarcerated by Union employees.
Union employees who are represented by attorneys who charge two, three, four hundred dollars an hour. How much are public defenders paid?

In the ideal, we could vote with our feet as well as on election day. We vote to live in a community that has a reputation for tough police, or vote for a town with a reputation for laid-back police.
Most of us live in a Metro area where we could choose between dozens of communities, each with its own combination of schools, police and other institutions.
Unfortunately, most towns are now dependent on the cocaine peddled by outsiders. If the town tried to a referendum to raise taxes for pay for that new shiny object the voters would vote down the referendum. So the town elders go for the free cocaine. But then they have to do the bidding of the cocaine dealers.

We live in a police state? Really? The police need support, not idiotic diatribes. Or do you just want to do away with all law enforcement? Good luck with that.

For a growing number of Americans, those confrontations do not end well.Is this actually true?
Certainly the number of Americans, and particularly black Americans, has been going down for decades.
Are there any solid statistics out there about police misconduct rates over time? Are they actually increasing or is it just the increased attention being paid now?
It is certainly a fact that in the relatively distant past the cops were pretty much a law to themselves. The movie LA Confidential was pretty accurate in that regard. Very little attention was paid to Bill of Rights back in the day. And most people didn't care because those affected were mostly minorities and criminals.
