Like those fools back in the 1980s who thought they were “investing” in the first personal computers for their office staffs. Those fools thought they were making an investment in productivity when they were actually simply making a purchase.
Some competitors who were advised to follow the lead of these folks (who didn’t know the difference between an investment and a purchase) chose not to take that advice and stuck with their usual ways of doing business. Of course those folks are long gone from the business scene.
