Raleigh, N.C. Attorneys for a Raleigh police officer began making the case Monday that he should be compensated the burns, blisters and emotional damage he suffered when a hot cup of coffee spilled on his lap in January 2012.
In the morning, a judge heard motions from representatives of Matthew Kohr, a lieutenant with Raleigh police's special operations division, and Starbucks.

I don’t know if he’s a transplant or not, but a lot, I mean A LOT, of NY cops come to NC - some to retire, some to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond (there was a run of NYC mid level execs getting chief jobs in southern cities for a while.), some for the weather.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all if that’s the case, but I honestly do not know.
Wish there was a way to find out.
Also wish there was a way to ship them back, not that we need them back here.
But, it’s better to keep such stuff blockaded in to prevent idiocy infection of otherwise nice areas.
O.G.N.T.S.A.
Note: A lap is not a cup holder.
Oh, I don't know ... it sounds like they're emotionally supporting one another in their quest to shake down Starbuck's.
Sounds like it to me as well.
Life imitates art. The SWAT commander on Hill Street Blues was a sipper of Starbucks and a consumer of over priced crap just like this police officer.
Nothing, other than being greedy, when I ran McD's back in the olden days (we were a very very busy store)we had 1500 to 2K breakfasts on Saturdays and I was spilling coffee on my hands all the time filling cups and I managed avoid physical, let alone emotional damage, and that was back when the coffee was really hot!
I thought the same and then I saw this thread ... Baltimore city worker fired for watching porn on the job (39 hrs in 80 hr pay period)
Good grief. Seriously...I know you guys have a great part of the country and all, and that anything bad is caused by someone from somewhere else, but...really?
While I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with anyone from New York myself, it just seems odd to blame this one someone right out of the box like that.
Almost as bad as someone blaming Starbucks or MacDonalds for hot coffee in their lap!
Your absurd over reaction reeks of projection and insecurity. I said nothing about this being a great part of the country. I never even said that all those cops moving here were totally a bad thing. I even said that some local governments thought it was cool to go hire a NYC cop as chief. Your hypersensitivity just sent you on a womanish tangent.
But yes, the yankees moving to NC are indeed MORE LIBERAL and MORE LITIGIOUS than NC natives, period, end of discussion, game set and match - thanks for playing, drive safe.
As a Raleigh citizen myself, I think you forgot to say “ Bless your heart”.
TOUCHE - I did indeed forget to do that. Good catch!
In America these days, even freeloaders demand your cash.
Bump.
I think anyone reading these two posts might not see mine post as a “hypersensitive womanly tangent”.
I think it is usually a lot more telling when someone resorts to ad hominem attacks, then tries to end a discussion with something like “...period, end of discussion, game set and match - thanks for playing, drive safe.”
It is the equivalent of saying you are going to take the ball and go home.
That’s okay. Go ahead. I won’t chase after you.
bless your little yankee heart........I think the vast majority of people did in fact think you over emoted and ranted - putting words in my post I never included.
I notice you didn’t even try and refute one syllable of my substance - so yes - that is what we call “game, set match” down south.
Who would the "vast majority did in fact" be? People you know? People you work with? People in your house? People in your mind? I didn't see many people agreeing or disagreeing in the thread so, if we agree on what percentage a vast majority is and you can get enough people to post to reach that percent, I will readily concede that point as a syllable of your substance, and not a syllable of your opinion.
As for substance,I didn't see much of that in your original post, but a good amount of opinion. Now, if you tell me that 30% of high paying police supervisory jobs are filled with non-North Carolina, I would regard that as substance if you could source it, and would agree with you.
And I would further say that I understand the original sentiment was not yours, but Darksheare's in the preceding post, in which you agreed. I simply thought you took the acrimony to a far higher level.
For the record, I do like NC and the people I have met from there. I wasn't being facetious or sarcastic when I said "you have a great part of the country and all" because I think you do. I don't understand the level of anger in your post, or the personal attacks.
Hot beverages in moving vehicles are a recipe for pain. Self inflicted pain.
