My college roommate’s parents were Christian missionaries in the former Belgian Congo; they were there for the post-1960 chaos & temporary independence of Katanga province.
Local magazines featured ads for “Simba - La Biere du Lion, Brasseries du Katanga”.
Moise Tchombe, leader of Katanga, was turned over by Congolese dictator Mobutu Sese Seko to the new Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi who promptly had him murdered.
Pardon the memorial but better times in Africa had at one time been possible.
