I sincerely hope that abortion left her unable to conceive ever again.
When women manage to suppress their maternal instinct enough to be able to have an abortion, it damages the instinct, and they seem never to be able to have a normal relationship with a later child that they have alive. Either they remain emotionally detached, or they become anxious and clingy. And if they choose to tell a child that they killed the child’s sibling, then that child will have the certain knowledge that the only reason his/her mother didn’t kill him/her is timing. They happened to come along when their mother was not in a killing mood.
True empowerment for women does not come through abortion, but through avoiding it. A little bit of discretion about one’s behavior, a little bit of research into effective birth controls and their proper use, and women can put vile abortionists out of business.
This is a cruel thing to hope. When so many women write essays about how abortion empowered them, why can't you spare some sympathy for a young woman who essentially admits that she has been broken by having had an abortion? We are all sinners. We should pray for this woman, not wish that she be barren.
I strongly disagree with your point of view.
This girl has committed the murder of her baby. She will suffer and continue to suffer, in her emotions, in her self-worth, and maybe in her body as well. All as a result of her corrupt choices which were encouraged by a very corrupt society.
But she may well be interiorly driven to real repentance when she realizes the heinous nature of what she's done. And yes, with spiritual healing she can regain her mothering instinct.
I have met a number of women who are active in the pro-life movement, who had had abortions, then sincerely and heart-grievingly repented, and went on to find a good men to marry and had well-loved children. This often happened in the context of a religious conversion.
Don't close off hope for her. Our Lord is merciful. She can find healing and wholeness from Him.
I have always believed that a person who obtains an abortion should lose a percentage of any Social Security that they would collect during retirement. They have destroyed the replacement rate and the increasing labor supply that pays the benefits.
