I can see that. I would suppose the best characteristic of a server would be cost and reliability as well as ease of configuration. Bells and Whistles are not needed. Reliability is definitely at the top of the list. Ease of maintenance I think counts for more than ease of configuration. Can you hot-swap a failed power supply or hard drive, or add memory or procs without having to uncable it and take it completely out of the rack.

I have friends that run server farms, but I never did any of that myself.
