While the House Select Committee on Benghazi was originally expected to reveal its findings by the end of this year, the release of the highly anticipated report could be delayed until 2016.
The delay would cause the report to be released during the key months of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
Republicans on the committee sought to put the blame for the potential delay on Clinton and other members of the Obama administration.
"Factors beyond the committee's control, including witness availability, compliance with documents requests, the granting of security clearancesand accreditations—all of which are controlled by the Executive branch—could continue to impact the timing of the inquiry's conclusion," said spokesman Jamal Ware.
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, also suggested the committee could finish its work much faster if Obama administration officials would cooperate.
"They could clean this up a whole lot quicker if the administration and former Secretary Clinton were in a position to actually cooperate with the committee and turn over the type of information that we've been seeking for some time," Boehner told reporters at a news conference on Wednesday.
"But the administration has made it virtually impossible to get to the facts surrounding Benghazi," he added. "When we have the facts, we'll have the report."
Meanwhile, Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., accused the GOP of playing politics due to Clinton's role as the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination.
"With the Republicans' obsessive focus on Hillary Clinton, and their now stated intention to drag out this political charade until just months before the 2016 election, the Select Committee no longer bears any resemblance to its original purpose," Cummings said.
Critics have regularly accused Republicans of politicizing the Benghazi attacks because of Clinton's presidential ambitions, noting that there have already been multiple Congressional probes.
Clinton was serving as Secretary of State during the attacks on U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya, which resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.
Republicans argue that the select committee is necessary because Congressional Democrats and the White House have stonewalled previous investigations.
Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., the chairman of the select committee, has asked Clinton to appear before the committee at least two times, including once for a private, transcribed interview on her use of a private email server while Secretary of State.

I don’t know about that, for sure. I think probably not-as-much might happen to Hillary given the absence of direct evidence.
I just won’t blame the absence of evidence on Gowdy, as many here choose to do.
For starters he could refrain from treating Clinton deferentially. Don’t ask her to testify, COMMAND. Issue a subpoena duces tecum, if she fails to comply she can be held in Contempt of Congress and then arrested and imprisoned.
Gowdy is wonderful. He knows Boehner is delaying a house vote on demand, for the evidence that he (Gowdy) needs, but which remains held by Hillary and by the State Department. He knows exactly what Boehner is doing about it, and what he is failing to do.
Gowdy is NOT authorized to kick in doors at Hillary’s residence and the State Department. He will happily bury her when the direct evidence shows up, but pretending authorization to break legs is an opinion he has openly discouraged. Period.
I can’t help it if there are those here who neither hear what he has said, nor get the picture, apparently at any level all except for the Neanderthal, but Gowdy has no intention of coming out as some damn fall guy for the Clintons, or Boehner.
Gowdy had no need to command, demand, or otherwise scream like an ape. Hillary accepted his request to appear nearly as soon as he made it.
So, what’s your point? Is it that he won’t act with the huffiness and puffiness of Al Sharpton? Sheesh.
The Cmte on Benghazi, chaired by Gowdy, can most certainly issue a subpoena.

Scream like an ape? Really?
Ray, Hillary is a private citizen. She is no longer the Secretary of State. She has rights as a citizen that sure as hell don’t authorize one committee chairman to get hysterical and call for her arrest and imprisonment, as a civilian.
You have a lot to learn, if you are really serious, and are not just a beat your chest screamer type.
The fact that she is a private citizen is immaterial. An investigatory committee of Congress possess the authority to issue subpoenas. This authority has been confirmed by the Supreme Court. See Anderson v. Dunn, 19 U.S. 204; Jurney v. MacCracken, 294 U.S. 125; McGrain v. Daugherty, 273 U.S. 135.

It’s all a matter of timing:
Move too soon and Obama will just give her/them a presidential pardon. Delay until charges are filed toward his exit without a conviction during his presidency and Hill-Billy both wear orange. I’ll be patient! It’s worth every second!

Not only did he not forget about the pardon but he also chose as a member of his committee a female prosecutor from Indiana that will be all too happy to question Ms Clinton

Not for her server. Only the full house can subpoena the server. Let the MSM soften her up. FOX -5 is currently discussing the CASH book and possibly pulling up the emails from the businesses the Clinton shook down. (They may think they’re JJ and AL but lack the finesse )

I’m sorry, but I’m not convinced Ray here wants to get the picture.
When this is what corruption looks like, it is hard to accept it. But, the Sec O State alone was charged with what was determined to be personal on the server, and what was belonging to State for release.
Apparently, because that is true and because Judicial Watch now claims that State is sending the Hillary campaign related documents, this makes it a certainty that it will take a full vote of the full HOR to jerk her around and make her cough up that server.
By the time that can be done, ALL docs will have been destroyed, including Huma’s and Cheryl Mills, the dirty trickster.
But Trey Gowdy can stop none of this from happening, and Boehner knows it. So, we’ll see what Boehner wants to discover, and what he doesn’t.

No kidding? Just a short while ago you advocated a time consuming strategy, i.e. “next year” when it is “inconvenient” for Hillary.
The more time that passes the more difficult the task becomes, which you have just acknowledged, yet you come up with all manner of excuses for no action being taken now.
Obviously you have not been following any of the legal beagle on FOX. Both Boehned and Gowdy has said it as well as Judge Neapolo and even Judge Alex. So have several of the talking heads with degrees:
