She’s a republican; The former 37 year serving mayor a democrat. In a town of 740, I bet there was a lot of nepotism in those jobs. And possibly covered up corruption.

I am betting you are right. We have a county of 380,000 people which has been trending GOP. In the 2011 municipal elections, the Democrats lost every row office on the ballot and control of the commission for the first time since the Eisenhower administration. There was a mass exodus at every level of country government. It also turned out that one of the former commissioners signed an over inflated long term lease with the country for additional office space on downtown building which he personally purchased for pennies on the dollar.

This type of crap is standard protocol in places where one party or faction stays in power for too long.

I say party or faction because the GOP has run large swaths of counties and municipalities in conservative parts of the Rocky Mountain states for years with minimal corruption. But this is because the TEA party types regularly take out the GOPe types from time to time.
