Walter Scott and his passenger were looking forward to having a cookout when he was pulled over and shot dead by a South Carolina police officer, it has emerged. Scott, 50, and Pierre Fulton, his friend of several years, had met for breakfast on April 4 before Scott drove him to a church...Scott was behind $18,000 in his child support payments and family members have said he may have run because he was worried about going to jail.

It’s easy to say there was no need to kill him with 20/20 hindsight (although we really don’t know that that’s true). But the law doesn’t use 20/20 hindsight as the standard in these cases. It uses the reasonable perception of the officer at the time. That’s why there’s a grey area.
The planted evidence thing is a distraction. He could just as easily have been securing a loose weapon so a bystander couldn’t get hold of it. We’ll just have to see on that one.
But anybody who runs from the police is a damn fool.
*******************
I’d say he wasn’t running from the police , he was running from our debtors prison system... he had an arrest warrant out on him because he couldn’t pay a bill... he knew he had no money for a legal defense and that none would be provided him because of how the “justice” system games this infraction , a “civil” infraction that carries a “criminal” penalty ... IF IT HAS A CRIMINAL PENALTY THEN THE MAN DESERVES COUNSEL ...
in the struggle for the weapon the office was struck with the taser. The lanyard was still attached to the barb and the fleeing suspect was entangled in the lanyard. If the fleeing suspect still had the taser he could incapacitate the officer at any time.
**************************
ALL speculation on your part... the taser cartridge could have been simply dislodged from the taser “gun” ,, the cop was not tased/shocked and nothing suggests that the dead man ever had control of the taser ,,, I think (notice how I am clearly labeling my speculation AS speculation) the taser simply came out of it’s holster while they rolled around. I would like to call your attention to the fact that one taser barb was embedded in the upper chest garment and another in the lower pant leg... That is inconsistant with a fired taser , the barbs embed close to one another.
The shooting will be called justified by team blue but the truth is that it is not... the man was not a threat, that the donut muncher caught him and he escaped a few times doesn’t make him a threat to the officers life, just his dignity if he was allowed to run away and be captured later.
Really? I’d say he was running from the cop he had just been fighting with and whose taser he had grabbed, thus prompting the cop to draw his gun on him. He was running from the concrete threat of a cop about to shoot him, not the remote concept of debtors prison.
all of which gets to the laws of engagement that requires the cop to stop the perp by any means at his disposal at that point.
***************************
Firstly there are no “laws of engagement” , rules YES , secondly the man did not engage the cop , the cop engaged him , the man simply bested the cop when he caught up with him , he did not harm the cop , and then he continued to run ,,, YOU SAY HE DESERVED DEATH FOR THAT? You’re just a punk bootlicker... we live in a surveillance police state , there is no way this should have ended in a mans death when he could have been picked up later that evening or the next day at his job...
The cop knew he murdered that man ,, he planted evidence next to the body to support YOUR POSITION that it was a good shoot... Well , if it was a good shoot why the need to plant evidence.
and whose taser he had grabbed
******************
SPECULATION , your at best believing a cop who was caught planting evidence. That destroys YOUR credibility.
He had no reason to believe he would be shot , he was unable to pay a court ordered debt THAT WAS HIS “CRIME” , he did not harm the cop , you have ABSOLUTELY NO evidence that the man harmed the cop at any time , he simply broke out of holds and ran.
He was running from the concrete threat of a cop about to shoot him
******************
I should have addressed this at the same time ...
NEWS FLASH , The cop may have warned him “I’M GOING TO SHOOT YOU” , I’ll give you that ,, but you must give me the FACT that 1.) COPS LIE AND ARE TRAINED TO LIE TO GAIN COMPLIANCE and 2.) There is no evidence anywhere that this man harmed this cop , except maybe his ego by escaping from him when caught.
He had no reason to believe a threat from this officer if he gave the officer the benefit of the doubt that he would behave rationally.
I’m not believing the cop. I’m believing the video. It’s evident from the first few frames of the Santana cell phone video that Scott had possession of the taser.
The theory that Slager planted evidence is speculative as well. We’re all speculating at this point based on the limited available evidence.
Look, I was a sucker like you when the video first came out. I thought it was a slam dunk for the “hands up don’t shoot” crowd. But I’ve revised my opinion after taking a step back and looking at the evidence. I think it was a bad shoot but I don’t think it was a murder.
That’s what happens when you attack a cop, they attack you back. Too bad, Mike wasn’t able to let Walt know what he learned.
Slager picked the fight.
He's going to prison.
Actually, police officer Slager attacked Walt.
When Mikey gets to prism, The Cleans will "learn" Mikey what he's actually worth.
Maybe a couple of cigarettes, or a quarter or two...
Slager just couldn't let "contempt of cop" go, and it's gonna cost him his entire life.
I'll bet that made Slager mad enough to kill.
Oh, wait...
Your “picked the fight” stuff is silly.
The State of South Carolina doesn’t think so. Where did you get your law degree? What State Bar are you a member of?
The SLED Agent did not accuse him of lying, they may have thought that he handled the truth mighty reckless. What they said was that they were suspicious because his story did not match up with the facts. They were investigating further. Then the man showed up with the video.
It's plainly evident that Walter Scott's entire intent was to leave the area.
Anyone ignoring that BLATANT intention is TUI*
Slager has a history of picking fights with peasants:

What's gratifying is that Slager is going to prison for this, finally.
Oops.
