“The supervisor suggests to Slager, “When you get home, it would probably be a good idea to kind of jot down your thoughts on what happened — the adrenaline is just pumping.””

Do all murder suspects get the chance to go home and jot down their thoughts prior to making a statement?

Well to be fair he wasnt a murder suspect at the time, although SLED had found issues at the scene.

To a certain extent yes. You do not have to speak to police even if arrested and jailed. Perps generally talk to an attorney to get their story straight. In many cases they never tell their story at all.

Murder suspects don't have to give a statement at all.

Since he is required to give a statement because the shooting arose from his employment he is given time to consult with legal counsel prior to making any such statement.
