WD-40 is a utility shelf staple. You probably know it as your go-to solution for squeaky hinges and rust prevention, but its so much more! Inside the familiar blue-and-yellow can is a secret blend of lubricants with anticorrosion, water displacement, and soil removal superpowers. WD40 is a menace. It isn’t as good as oil to lubricate. It isn’t as good as Kroil for penetration, the only thing it is good for is if you spray a ton of it on the underside of your rig, when you get done mudding, the mud will come off with a pressure washer.
Never used blaster that I can remember. Will pick up a can. Those rusted old bolts and nuts on the ragged old jeeps need all the help they can get.
I just never use it, I tried it for a while many years ago, but decided that it just doesn’t serve a purpose for me.
Especially good and noted for unsticking engines that are frozen/seized after years of sitting.
BTW, I’m a restorer and collector of antique motorcycles and not a bad mechanic myself........
I’ll have to remember the homemade mixture. Now that you mention it, I want to think I’ve heard of using that decades ago. Thank you.
I’m a gaffer’s tape guy. Kind of pricey but great stuff.
You and my neighbor across the hall at the office would get along great. He is big on older motorcycles and always has a few around in his building.
I'm talking about squeaky things around the home — hinges and such.
I haven't rebuilt an engine in 40 years and won't be doing so any time soon.
GoJo usually does fairly well for me after a couple of passes. I’ll try to remember your tip too. If there is a better way to do something, I’m usually interested.
I knew a mechanic who would hold a butane lighter a short distance from the WD40 nozzle and use it to torch black widow spiders.
I used it to remove printer toner on carpet
For use as a sexual lubricant, you’re supposed to spray it on the outside bedroom doorknob to keep the kids from walking in on you. :=)
I use graphite spray for locks.
Ah, that would be water dispersant (thus the 'WD'; 40 is the number of the formulation: Water dispersable, 40th attempt).
When I was around 21, I mentioned to my girl friend that I thought athletic tape was extremely useful.
A month or two later, we were driving another friend to the Asheville, NC airport. We were on the Blue Ridge Parkway when my engine began to overheat. As luck would have it, we were near the only house near by for miles.
I had several rolls of athletic tape and taped up the radiator hose where it was leaking, refilled the radiator and drove the short distance to the airport.
We made it the roughly 25 miles home tho it was beginning to overheat again. I got a new hose the next day.
My girlfriend then reminded me that I had told her about the tape before.
Duck tape is really useful for emergency or short term use. It is not for long term use at all.
Crisco or lard will quickly and gently dissolve grease from your hands. Follow up with Dawn liquid to remove the Crisco. Old school.
Psst....duct tape
See my post #12. You probably know this already.
For years I thought the right word was duct tape. I happened to read an article about it a few years ago and it really was duck tape originally.
I guess either one is OK.
You can spray LPS, a WD50 competitor, on your tires and it will loosen all the little pebbles caught in between the treads.
