I was hoping to CC the .357. The .38 is that much better?

.357 magnums has too much power for a concealable barrel. .38spl is a handful in a snubbie, especially in +P. if you're looking for more power in a concealable weapon, perhaps 9mm +P in a small format would work. A semi-auto absorbs more hand-slamming energy.

The .357 in a short barrel puts out one he!! of a fireball. I am using a Ruger SP101 3” barrel as reference. The muzzle flip is strong but takes getting used to. Run .38+P HP through the gun. It is sort of a soft magnum. Good for follow up and much more controllable.

Try them out at the store. A.357 is a heavy load. There are some ballistic charts out there and the.357 needs some barrel. The muzzle flash would be something elsen on a 1.x”. 38+P is somewhere in between and the ruger and sw handles those. None of the above are fun guns, just for emergency.
