Guess that DI forgot who paid for that grass and who pays him. It is NOT his grass.
Parents and family are so hyped about being there, although I did think the same thing at the time and hated being ordered around, we really did need to be herded. Being in So. Cali. that year was precious, too, because the spring was wonderful. Everything was in bloom, and the grass was actually green. San Diego was the most beautiful city I had ever seen.
I can understand staying off the grass and keeping the base beautiful. High and tight grass. More a matter of respect for all (includes recruits, Marines stationed there, and civilian visitors) as opposed to my individual right to make a mud path.
