I was at the DFW airport that day and saw the smoke from the crash. THAT was some storm - blew a 737 parked at a gate next to ours a bit sideways due to wind pressure on the VS.

I kinda doubt the story about stealing luggage based on where the plane went down. IIRC it impacted just short of the threshold and there is no public thoroughfare there- just a nearby airport access road.

That event is what prompted us to get call waiting. My wife was on the phone talking to her sister for over an hour while I was trying to call her to let her know that was not my plane - we had already landed.

But that happened long enough ago to mis-remember ;-)

Delta 191 sat down in a field before the highway. One of the port engines hit a black Toyota Celica, killing the driver instantly. Only the front fenders were recognizable.

With the loss of the port engine and hence, thrust, and the two remaining engines running at full-tilt (as they had tried to climb out of the microburst), 191 continued across the highway, across the field and impacted two water tanks, veering strongly to the left due to asymmetrical thrust.

As I recall, the story was in a local newspaper. There were other horrific scenes described by surviving passengers (in the same story). I no longer sit over the wing, unless necessary, because of one of those stories.
