Unfortunately, this is true. If you or I swung at a work colleague, then it is going to be 1) written warning 2) fired Probably closer to 2, especially in a large PC organization. If he actually planted leather, and the punch landed, then it is going to be (2) + the cops - jail We are fortunate that Clarkson's actions are between (1) and (2) which means that the BBC have some slack to play with. They do not have to sack him. There is an image doing the rounds (I think on twitter) of 'the Joker' with the caption 'What, the BBC was infested with paedophiles and rapists for years and on one said anything.
