People tend to like kitchens or gardens. During football season I know a cadre around here that will huddle around a TV. ;)

But kitchens are natural social gathering place.

Think of the word 'hearth'. It used to be the center of all activity and cooking. Still is, in some cases. It literally is the heart/hearth of the home.

Even in Germany, I had a kitchen, floor space, about 4.5 feet wide and about 7 feet long. Yep, that’s where everyone squeezed, when the food was ready, everyone moved to the dining area and that’s where we finished our time together. Tonight we’re having a meeting, and you guessed it, in the kitchen. (that means I need to clear the island)
