Rigs with a wide track have to stay on the pavement!
Off-road, the old narrow CJs were king because they could travel almost anywhere.
The recent “Rubicon” model is so wide that it needs a super highway. They look like fun, but they are really a trailer with a motor in it.

I can't stand the current Wranglers; its like Jeep decided they wanted to compete with the Hummer or the Toyota FJ (both OOP now, ironically) or something. IMHO the line of "Jeep" Jeeps ended with the TJ.
I'm going to be in the market for something new pretty soon, and there's nothing out there that I like. At all. If Jeep still made the TJ it would be at the top of my list (a new-build XJ would be #2, but that's because I already have one). Instead I'll probably let my wife choose (so a RAV4 or CRV) and I'll take her first-generation Toyota Highlander.
