History of a ‘Little Black Jeep”
Era 1955. Jim Rathmann, Indy Race Driver, owned a small auto shop in Miami. He and his staff built a frame, placed a flathead Mercury engine in it. Then placed a WW2 new factory Jeep body on it.
It was originally meant to be an advertising vehicle.
A friend of mine, Bob B., who worked at Rathmann’s, bought said Jeep and raced it a the Sunday Drags around Florida.. For along time most people thought it had a Chev. overhead in it.

A special edition produced by Hot Rod magazine in 1958 had photos of that jeep, among other “military” themed rods.

I don’t know if any of that stuff is available online.
