For the same reason Julius Irving did not develop a jump shot until his 3rd year in pro basketball. He did not need to to win games.

It was Julius Erving; and he never developed a decent jump shot.

I actually played against Dr J. His shot back then was non existremt. A brick. Same at UMasd. Same in the ABA. It got much better than it was when he joined the NBA. But thanks for the spelling lesson.
