NEW DELHI (AP) — An Indian bride walked out of her wedding ceremony after the groom failed to solve a simple math problem, police said Friday.
The bride tested the groom on his math skills and when he got the sum wrong, she walked out.
The question she asked: How much is 15 plus six?
His reply: 17.

You are correct that in general India is doing a WAY better job of educating their people in math than we do.
And that many H1B’s are very smart people.
But you know as well as I that the pool is also replete with fraudsters surviving on fake resumes.
He would be eligible to teach in this country.
He was being creative. 15 + 06 = 17 makes sense. 1+0=1 for the tens place. In the ones place, you have 5,6, and naturally the next number is 7.
So, 17 makes perfect sense.
