In 2002 when my son was a senior in high school I knew a family at my church whose oldest daughter was a student at the same school. Thuy was 19 years old and a spec ed student. Thuy who is not bright tried very hard in class. She was catching hell every day at school with kids knocking the books out of her hands and jumping in front of her and calling her names. Her fatheretold me about what was happening so I told my boy, who knew Thuy from Church but had paid her no attention at all at school, to greet her when they passed in the hall. He did and Thuy, who normally held her books tightly in front of her, put her head down and bulled through the hall between classes, responded. Another fellow en passant razzed Thuy and Bo told him to knock it off. From that point he defended Thuy when he saw others giving her a ration even to the point of knocking one down after school. The harassment stopped and I noticed a transformation in Thuy at church. She was no longer defensive and irritable and the the folks at church started to include her in whatever was going on. Now Thuy takes good care of her frail widowed mother and is a normal part of the community.
Great story. You have a son you can be very proud of.
