This past week, the web’s spider senses were tingling with the rumour that the next cinematic Spider-Man—yes, there’s another reboot, due out in 2017—won’t be a white guy. “Listen, this is not set in stone, guys,” film insider Jeff Sneider had told the Meet the Movie Press podcast, “but I’m telling you, right now, Spider-Man’s not going to be white. I’m 95 per cent sure.”
Whether or not there’s any truth to it, the mere prospect of a non-white Spidey came as a shock to many. Peter Parker is white, and so are Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the actors who played him. So how exactly would this work? Diehards of course know that, in the comic series, Miles Morales, a half-black, half-Latino teenager, stepped into the superhero’s shoes after Peter Parker “died” in a 2011 issue (spoiler alert: he comes back).
But that didn’t stop the brouhaha. Angry fans lambasted the idea as a politically correct ploy that would tarnish an icon and destroy a franchise. Some echoed the infuriatingly ignorant responses that framed Morales’s creation four years ago as an effort of the Obama press corps, asked why Marvel wouldn’t make Morales a “dyslexic homosexual too,” and stated, “Spidey’s dead to me.”

The fundamental problem with going the Miles Morales route is that the backstory still requires Peter Parker.
So, given that this new attempt at Spiderman will tie in with the Marvel movies (starting with Captain America: Civil War) how does that all work in a way that isn’t seriously convoluted and utterly confusing? Do the Garfield or McGuire movies act as some sort of ‘vague history’ to the new effort? Does Parker appear only to get quickly killed so the role can be taken over? Do they start with a completely new Spiderman that ignores both Parker and Morales?
Or do they stick to the Peter Parker character and do what is being done with the Johnny Storm/Human Torch character in Fantastic Four and make him Black or Hispanic?

Both DC and Marvel decided on a kind of quota program for their characters years ago. It become more important than the stories. You just had to accept that they were going to kill off/retire beloved characters so that they could make their political statement. They decided that they had to have X number of black, Asian, Hispanic, homosexual, etc, characters take over the mantel of characters to make a statement. At DC the classic Green Lantern and Batwoman came out, and rumors persist that Wonder Woman will inevitably come out of the closet (and island full of lesbians, etc). Mr Terrific and Firestorm were killed off and replaced with black Terrifics and Firemstorms. Marvel has started the gender-switching thing now, with Thor being a woman.

And if all races are the same, why do they keep telling us whites are so evil?
Several reasons actually. The primary one is money.
