It's a fact - I think - that in marriages and relationships the person of weaker beliefs will gravitate towards the viewpoint of the one with stronger beliefs.
In my situation, my girlfriend has drifted from a "small l" liberal to a "small c" conservative, and I don't think she's just kissing my butt: she had big problems with post-modern liberalism in her former academic setting before she ever met me. I think when the conservative point of view is explained, it makes sense to people who aren't strong ideologues on the other side. And it's the same with religion.

If Maher is right and Jeb intends to do unto the Catholics as his brother did unto the Evangelicals, that means that “Catholic” does not have to become a dirty word like “Evangelical” did. The Catholics can avoid the same disgrace and ridicule.
