Facing backlash for allegedly stigmatizing minorities particularly black men the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities announced on Tuesday that it will no longer include racial descriptors in crime alerts issued to students and faculty.
This change supports our public safety goals while recognizing the harm that the use of race in crime alerts causes for some members of our community, the university, which has nearly 50,000 students and is located in Minneapolis and St. Paul, said in a statement.
Moving forward, the University will use descriptions only when there is sufficient detail that would reasonably help identify specific individual suspects or groups of suspects [e.g., some combination of gender, race, clothing, height, body type, build, accent, tattoos, hair color, facial hair], the university stated.
The change came about after an 18-month long campuswide conversation in which members of the schools community raised concerns about the use of racial descriptors as part of Crime Alerts.

But, really their just catching up with what our lame stream media has been doing for awhile, especially since Ferguson.
Can you say "teenager or youth".
Let a white person attack a black person. They will be happy to mention race.
He looka lika man.....
So keeping a segment of the population mollified is more important than warning the student body of a danger or catching the perpetrator? Okay, I’ve got it.
Well I hope they remove all racial descriptions from their admissions paperwork. LOL
So I trust they'll be okay with "a group of 50 African-American males in grey hoodies and baggy jeans" -- and not the generic "a group of teens".... right? Isn't that what this explanation says?

So they don’t really care if the students are actually “alerted” do they?
e.g., some combination of gender, race, clothing, height, body type, build, accent, tattoos, hair color, facial hair],
we wont know what the combination is unbtil...we hear it..
for emotionalists,a narrative that makes them feel good inside or avoids making them feel bad is more important than reality
Circling the drain waiting for the flush . . .
But, of course..... then, Big Brother can make statistics say whatever they want.
Does it apply to an alien from Mars?
That was my first thought too.
I think they would still say a group of youths in grey hoodies and baggy jeans.....total stupidity.
Be on the lookout for someone, dressed in some way. He/she is Armed and Extremely Dangerous so don’t attempt anything that might be something.
So unless the 'University' deems that there is enough detail to make the description apply to just about anybody (i.e. not offend protected groups), they'll avoid any general characteristic that would significantly narrow the search down & lead to a resolution, such as sex or skin color. Yep, that'll work
Hair-color????
I see a potential STIGMA here
