What are songs/music you loved as a child and still love to this day?
All of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Operas.
I had them all memorized by the fifth grade and used to do a one-girl show of the best songs.
Now i write FReeper-Style parodies to the songs:
“I am the very model of a Michael Moron Liberal”
” Tort Lawyer” (To the Tune of “Tit Willow”)
“Whe i was a lad in Boston Town (About John Kerry)
“I’ve got a little List” about liberals we could live without.
“My Object all sublime” (about the Supreme Court)
etc.
That was written by Mozart. No wonder it still gets you stoked! :-)
I know Nicko personally. :-)
He signed my sticks!
Now he owns and runs a vbery cool rib joint near my house.
I am not making this up.
Well I was thinking under 10 years, but could be up to age 18.
Meet the Mets
Meet the Mets
Step right up and greet the Mets
Bring the kiddies
And bring the wife
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
Because the Mets are really socking the ball
Knocking those home runs over the wall
East side, west side
Everybody’s coming down
To meet the M-e-t-s METS
From New York town
Don’t remember the Polo Grounds or Ebbets Field, my Dad had fond memories of those places, but I remember actually seeing Shea Stadium under consrutuction. MAN, are we getting old!
I’m only 52 but I rally like the Mills Brothers. After all, you’re nobody till somebody loves you.
I used to play Herb Alpert and the Star Wars soundtrack over and over. I was four or five...
Ernie Ford Sixteen Tons
I wrote words to “Farandole” in honor of my beloved Border Collie, Torey(RIP):
Torey lives
a life— of— ease!
It’s so pleasant to do what your ple-e-ease.
In the shade, so the sun won’t scorch
Her insulated igloo’s on the porch
She is free from— ticks and fleas
Although her medicine makes— her— sne-e-eeze
Of South Florida, she’s the queen
Her paws wiggle when she has a dream.
A Dog’s Life
Can be kinda neat.
Her only job is to be cute and swe-e-e-e-eet
Eat sleep play, Take Momma for a jog,
Life is lovely just being a dog.
I used to sing this to her all the time. Then, once while we were riding in my car and listening to Classical Radio, L’Arlesianne came on. Immediately she recognized the tune, her ears went up, and she started bouncing up and down with joy. It was HER song!
Normally I wouldn’t expect dogs to be able to recognize musical intervals, discern melody, or be able to extrapolate from an orchestral arrangement that this was the same as the little acapella ditty that her Momma would sing to her.
But...we are talking about a BORDER COLLIE.
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I feel my heart start to trembling
Whenever you’re around
Oh, baby, when I see your face
Mellow as the month of May
Oh, darling, I can’t stand it
When you look at me that way
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I feel my heart start to trembling
Whenever you’re around
Oh, darling, when you’re near me
And you tenderly call my name
I know that my emotions
Are something that I just can’t tame
I’ve just got to have you, baby
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down
I just lose control
Down to my very soul
I get hot and cold all over
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
Tumbling down
Tumbling down
Tumbling down
Tumbling down
Growing old is mandatory.
Growing Up...Is optional.
I loved “The Streets of El Paso” by Marty Robbins.

And “Who Do You Love” gave me nightmares. I’ve never been sure whose version it was. Seems like it should have been about 1966.....

My Mom liked Herb Albert. Also Johnny Mathis and Barbra Streisnad. Yeah, she’s a political moron, but she does have an incredible singing voice.
Just about anything by The Four Seasons.
I just noticed the child part
Tapestry is a little later on in life
The song I recall is one mom and dad played on their hi-fi
Winchester Cathedral
