A "huge flock" of jackrabbits in a Fargo, North Dakota, neighborhood has homeowners feeling jumpy.
More than 50 jackrabbits the size of small dogs have been hopping around backyards and a park of a new development in South Fargo, resident Kayla Straabe told ABC News today.
"Every day, I feel like the crazy rabbit lady chasing them out of the yard where they're having a hay day," Straabe said. "There's at least 40 to 50 everyday, and they're in our yards and by a children's park."
She said the city pest control department told her that they couldn't do anything about the jackrabbits, technically wild hares, because they were wild animals.
"I was told we should poison them, which I will absolutely not do," Straabe said.
There is no city ordinance that deals with depopulating rabbits in the area, Fargo Police Lt. Joel Vettel told ABC News.

I know your experiments need room to grow, but North Dakota?
Racism! Climate change! George Bush! All the usual suspects!
Nothing much out there to worry about.
Plus they and the natives are getting plenty of exercise as well as fresh air.
While stationed in Minot I hunted these rabbits which I discovered while duck hunting. At first I used .22 standard velocity but could not keep up with them. Since they run about a 100 yards and stand on their hind feet I switched to my 6.5 Rem Mag and waited till they stopped and stood up. They could kick the snot out of a beagle. I wouldn’t even bother with a pellet gun let alone target .22. Having them hang around a house would make it easier.
You can best bet someone on FR has and would be willing to share a recipe!
Hi.
The younger ones are good eating. Just pull the backstraps because the legs are the first thing to get tough. Cooking them wet like in a casserole seems to work good. If I had a town full of them in winter when they yard up, I would equip myself with a nice light recurve or longbow and blunts and sneak around backyards having a blast.
Never fails :)
“Um, ah, what’s up doc’’?
LOL! “The rabbits are coming hoo ray hoo ray. Look Doc, I’m multiplyin’ ‘’.
I’ve eaten plenty of cottontail rabbit....not a lot of meat but good in a stew.
Jackrabbit-—no way. I don’t know why but we just grew up knowing you didn’t go there.
Did you see the picture though?
Those are some hoggish fat ole jackrabbits!
I looked it up. Jack rabbits carry a disease called Tularemia or rabbit fever which can transmit to humans. When I was a kid, we were told they carried TB. That’s why we only shot them but didn’t eat them.
There you go!
There was something like that in my memory too but you know how it is when you are a kid. “You can’t go back in the water for an hour after you eat!”
Some of that stuff you never do find out if it was lore or love or mom just not wanting to look at that rabbit on her stove.
Thanks for the research.
“Dog-sized means Chihuahua or St. Bernard?”
You could have clicked the link quicker than making that post.
Shoot in head rake kind quarters and back. Stew slowly, good stuff lotta meat. And these things when they stand on their back feet are 30-36 inches tall.
Beeman Kodiak........22 cal pellet.........I have one and it's a pretty darn good air rifle.......
I'd love to upgrade to a PCP rifle but they're really expensive as are the required accessories......
Concise and to the point.
#39th post???? You’re slow dude..........LOL!
Jacks around here are stringy and full of sage - not the good kind.
