In Las Vegas, the HOAs have such a bad reputation that the local news channels have invented an “HOA Hall of Shame.” Just the fact that there are certain HOA officials who make the news in a not-so-worthy way has produced a new set of laws from Carson City.

There is enough corruption here — we don’t need intimidating little despots to make us want to move.

Just ban 'em. In Houston there was one notorious case where the HOA evicted a senior from her home for lack of fee payments. Then her home was sold at auction for pennies on the dollar.

Turns out the guy who bought the home at auction was related to the HOA president.

Once a local talk-show host got wind and started publicizing it the city government got involved and got the woman her home back.

Power corrupts. People should never have it if at all possible. If they should have it, they should know their neighbors have it, too (like gun ownership).
